Your Mortgage Application Checklist
Here are common documents your loan officer may request as your application moves forward. Requirements vary by loan program and your situation; your loan officer will confirm what applies to you.
-
Photo identification
A copy of your driver's license. Ask your loan officer about any additional identification documents that apply to your situation.
-
Income documents
Recent pay stubs covering the past 30 days and W-2 forms for the past two calendar years, if applicable.
-
Bank & asset statements
Your two most recent checking and savings account statements, plus recent investment or retirement account statements as requested. Include all statement pages, not screenshots.
-
Tax & self-employment records
Federal tax returns for the past two calendar years, if requested. Self-employed borrowers may also need business tax returns and a year-to-date profit and loss statement.
-
Existing property documents
If you own property, have mortgage statements, property tax and homeowners insurance information available. Rental property owners may also be asked for lease agreements.
-
Documents for your situation
VA borrowers may need a Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Retired borrowers may be asked for Social Security or pension award letters and 1099 documents.
Keep your documents secure
Use only the secure document portal confirmed by your loan officer. Do not send tax returns, bank statements, identification, or Social Security numbers through regular email or a public contact form. If a request or link looks unfamiliar, call your loan officer using a verified phone number.
Not sure which documents apply? Your loan officer can walk you through the list.
Not Sure Who to Choose?
Call us and we'll match you with a loan officer for your needs and location. After you apply, your loan officer reviews your file and calls you to set up a time to discuss your pre-approval.
